The Bedslat Boat
De Bedlatjesboot
Watch the video:
Made in Amsterdam
ALMOST COMPLETELY MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS
Bed slats have a perfect curve
Light weight
A 'skin on frame' construction
Electric propulsion
The boat has an electric motor, and the LFP battery (which contains no conflict materials) is charged with green electricity. The battery can be charged up to 3000 times - lead acid batteries can only be charged 500 times.
The battery case is new so that it is waterproof.
Safety
Everywhere you look you'll find triangles, which makes the boat strong and sturdy. The floor is a sandwich contruction, and it filled with foam.
Some parts are new, like the big wooden plate in the floor, the stainless steel screws, and the foam in the floor. The nuts and bolts are mostly recycled.
No chemical paints
To waterproof the wood it has been treated with linseed oil. It's a bit like sunflower oil. It's safe to apply indoors, and is affordable too.
The downside? It will have to be re-applied more often than chemical paint.
Cradle to Cradle
The boat itself is easy to recycle

No glue
the boat can be taken apart fully. Only one thing was glued: the rowing oars (to increase strength) -
Origami
The tarp was folded into shape around the frame, and then clamped into place. No holes were made in it, so it can be re-used.
And the rowing oars?
Also made from bedslats.
Really big ones.
